Pray. Vote.

by Becky Armstrong, Media Manager for the National Day of Prayer Task Force

The National Day of Prayer launched the "Pray for Election Day!" campaign on January 2, 2008 with 16 million listeners tuning in to hear Dr. James and Shirley Dobson with Brian Toon discuss the need to pray for our nation.

Many people are surprised by the notion of praying for our politicians and other government leaders, especially during an election year! " Throughout Scripture, we see that God answers prayer and He cares about the leadership of nations," said NDP Vice Chairman Brian Toon. "The 'Pray for Election Day!' campaign is an effort to bring to attention the importance of praying for those in leadership. We are asking people to fast and pray for the presidential primaries and of course, the national election."

What can you do for your country?

Pray...For God's guidance in the election process; that He will place men and women of integrity into positions of influence to seek guidance and protection for our nation in the years to come. "Live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." Ephesians 4:1-2

Pray... For Local, State and National Leaders in our Legislative, Executive and Judicial Branches. There is no such thing as a minor role for an elected or appointed official as the decisions they make affect our lives and will shape the future of our nation. “I urge, then, first of all, that request, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
1 Timothy 2: 1-2

Pray... For the United States of America. This year's elections will determine the future of our nation for ourselves and future generations. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

Offer Thanksgiving... Trusting in God’s will. Rest on the belief that the correct leaders will be elected to guide our cities, states and our Nation at this point in history. "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
